Who We Are

About UBC

University Bible Church is an Independent Christian Church in
the Protestant Tradition.

To all who worship with us, we offer a cordial welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We endeavor to combine the warmth of a personal, devotional faith with a reverent respect for the historic traditions of the Christian Church. We seek to maintain a balance between the freedom of individual conscience and the responsibility of Christian fellowship. We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that it contains the truth necessary for salvation. We strive to present its message in a clear and meaningful way.

Founded in 1938, our property has been on the corner of Wilshire & Malcolm for 97 years, and the church was a part of the Westwood Village community. The University Bible Church is distinctive in many ways. Organized in October 1937, as a Presbyterian Church, it was later changed to an undenominational “Bible” Church in order to better serve and unite all Bible-believing residents of western Los Angeles and students at UCLA. Its distinctives in its inception, for it was the outgrowth of work begun in this community by the first Pastor, Milo F. Jamison in 1936.

Our Mission

UBC exists to glorify the Triune God
and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely
I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
— Matthew 28:18–20

Our Purpose

To foster the promulgation of the fundamental
doctrines of the Old and New Testaments, using
all lawful means and avenues available.

Our Core Beliefs are Found in the UBC Articles of Faith:

  1. We believe that the entire Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
  2. We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  3. We believe in the sacrificial, vicarious death of Jesus Christ on the cross, and that He thereby became a perfect substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of the world.
  4. We believe in the literal, bodily, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
  5. We believe in the personal, bodily, and physical return of Christ, which is the blessed hope of the Church.
  6. We believe that all men are sinful and in an eternally lost condition apart from the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  7. We believe that acceptance into the family of God and eternal salvation can only be secured by believing in and by faith accepting and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior.
