About The Project
Ghana West Africa: A country where most people speak and read English, where the Spirit of God is abundant, but Bibles are not.
It is a country with the potential to be a great light for Jesus, a city on a hill that can impact the rest of Africa and the world.
In 2007 UBC began collecting new and used Bibles to send to churches, prisons, and orphanages in Ghana. Since then, we have
distributed 50,000 Bibles, clothing, medical supplies, set up numerous free medical clinics, and built relationships with the
beautiful, joyful, amazing people of Ghana.
Our current project is raising funds and volunteers to build a medical clinic at Countryside Orphanage in Bawjiase Ghana West Africa.
How it all began:
The project began with one Bible and two men - Tony Arbini of Los Angeles and Reverend John Mensah-Acaquaye (Brother John)
of Ghana West Africa.
In the late 1990's Brother John was on a mission trip in America to raise support for his small Bible college and the 35 churches that
had been raised up out of his school (This has grown to about 50). Tony met up with Brother John and helped him set up a base
of operation from his home for a period of five months. Near the end of the trip, Brother John received a letter from Tiawah Albendy
who was a death row inmate in Ghana.
The letter was a reminder of a promise to find a chain reference study Bible. Brother John asked Tony if he could meet this need
directly. Tony was delighted and quickly purchased a new Bible. Before he sent off the Bible he wrote a letter of encouragement
and placed it inside the front cover along with a couple of photos of his family. To his surprise a few months later he received a
letter of thanks from the prisoners. They had scraped together their meager resources and reached across the miles with
heartfelt thanks and encouragement.
God used this experience along with an understanding of the poverty in Ghana to show Tony how far out of reach a Bible is
financially to many people in Ghana, as well as how much of a difference one Bible can make.
